This novel is entertaining, not for late night reading however. It will scare you!
This was my first Micheal Rivers book, and I will be back for more.
I can recommend this novel with five stars for haunting sea lovers reading pleasure.

The Black Witch eBook Micheal Rivers Reviews
The Black Witch is a nautical horror novel that chronicles the fate of the crew of a ship with a dark presence dwelling on board. Set in the 1930s, Micheal Rivers incorporates interesting scenarios and well-researched seafaring info into this tale. I found the plot to be somewhat uneven, often shifting rather too quickly for my liking. At times it seemed at though the author was patching together a collection of different ideas into a single story. Though some reviewers have complimented it, I personally would have enjoyed more character development than Rivers provided. I can't really say I was emotionally invested to a great degree in any of those in the story, and for me, the best horror involves characters for whom you want to root. Despite these criticisms, the book was enjoyable nonetheless, and kept me up late reading on more than one occasion. If you like horror, especially set at sea, then I'd recommend The Black Witch for you.
This is a Paranormal Suspense mixed with Historical Fiction.
Dorian Coe fell hard for the schooner that debuted as The Black Witch. He was willing to use all of his money to buy it. His long time friend decided to help him out financially because he too fell under the spell of the lovely lady of the sea. Had they been in their right mind, maybe they would have heeded the warnings from the old ship's logs.
I learned many nautical terms as Mr. Rivers shared the details of the schooner and the voyage. While I enjoyed the tale that was weaved there was something that kept me from fully loving it. I feel certain though that anyone who is into sailing and 'ghost stories' will love this book.
Warning This is for Mature Audiences due to Violence, Sexual Situations, and mild Adult Language.
What a brilliant surprise! The story revolves around a black ship and the people who must have her. It had just the right amount of creepy; enough to make me watch the shadows, but be able to turn out the lights. The characters struggled with their dark sides enough to make me inspect mine.
About halfway through the book I was happy to find I couldn't put it down. I read a lot of indie books and there have been only a handful that stoked the page turning passion.
Many of my favorite book elements were at play here I love ocean adventures, a good mystery, tales of old schooners, ghosts, tragedy, suspense and relationship drama.
My only complaint is that I wonder what the characters looked like.
I recommend this book and will read other by the same author.
What an interesting ride. Mr. Rivers put us in the depths of a schooner with a very tainted history unknown to her new potential owners. Mr. Coe and Mr. Ritchie. She is the last of her class in a world turning to modern propulsion systems. She is made of the finest wood available in these parts of the Northeast. With the exception of the ship's hull being painted black, she is the queen of the schooner world.
Ah, but a very dark secret hides beneath her beauty. The original owner refused to pay any of the workers for their labors. One of the builders places a curse for all who have any business with her no matter what the time period.
Do you believe in tales of the depths? Is there an unseen force hiding in the Bermuda Triangle? Can a ship travel the portals of time giving the looks of pristine condition despite the fact she's been written off the ship registry's as salvaged? Arh, those are the questions one will have to venture out and answer for themselves.
If you like a book that will have you seeing ghosts and hauntings, or perhaps you enjoy the vernacular from old salts of the past-the men who charted and tamed the seven seas? If you answered yes to any of those questions, than wait no longer and grab a copy. Be forewarned of the Ships Owners offering a trip of a lifetime. It may be your last!
How far would you go to live the dream of a lifetime? Dorian Coe, Micheal Rivers' main character, was willing to go as far as necessary.
Do you believe in ghosts? The Devil? Rivers' created powerful and believable characters who sailed the Black Witch to the depths of despair and beyond. They were not all human. The Black Witch had me reaching out to touch something real more than once. Balasco will scare you to the tips of your toes! Is he real or not?
You'll shake your head in disgust at the lengths we humans will go to "have it all." Does good win over evil? Not always. The Black Witch picks and chooses who wins and who loses. Rivers casts a spell that lingers long after the last page.
P.S. If you have to go outside after dark, take a flashlight, a BIG one! Great read, highly recommended! Thanks, Micheal, for your spooky tale. I look forward to more.
