The telecommunications company, Dynacom, is CEO Wilson McCann's only love. He has sacrificed everything to lead it to success in an industry that is undergoing deep change while shrinking through aggressive acquisitions by rival companies. Dynacom's competitor, Legent, moves to acquire his company and McCann works to save it. Despite his efforts and those of his friends on Wall Street, Dynacom is acquired. A bitterly disillusioned McCann has lost his position and his perks. Hounded by the media, he rescues his dead uncle's debt-ridden farm from foreclosure and returns to the Michigan town where he spent his youthful summers.

In his search for a new purpose in his life, he meets three women from his past who want to be part of his future. Donna, who gave herself to him in the past and has given herself to Christ now. Sally, the thrice married, twice divorced mother of three and Cindy, the Wall Street investment banker who is the key to financing a new acquisition. Each has a decidedly different objective. Past associates seek to draw him back into the telecommunications industry while new friends encourage him to find God's plan for his life.

When McCann becomes involved in a plan to acquire parts of his old company in an acquisition that could propel him back to a position of leadership, mysterious activities by Michigan's Governor may turn the acquisition into a disaster. As he seeks to regain what he has lost, McCann faces a series of tragedies that drive him to his knees. He makes his greatest acquisition and the opportunities for his future collide with the results of his past.

Acquisition is a provocative story of one man's search for meaning in life amidst the fast-paced world of telecommunications acquisitions filled with a tapestry of colorful characters from a small Michigan farming community and the financial centers of the country.

Acquisition Robert W Zinnecker 9781432772482 Books Reviews

I really enjoyed this book! I found it wholesome and heartwarming, and also inspirational as far as how to live as a Christian. There were so many interesting and intertwining plots with good examples of how to witness to others, love others, and have the right perspective about your career. The characters were developed so well. Like others have said, I find myself still thinking about them. I highly recommend it.
I bought Acquisition because I had the privilege of working in the telecom industry when Bob Zinnecker did. I finished the book because it turns out that Bob is a very talented author. He keeps the reader engrossed with realistic yet surprising plot developments, a genuine feel for his characters, and an energy that is inviting, exciting and fresh. His work gets us in touch with the deeper meaning of life and has us asking what we're doing with our own lives that serves God and the people around us. I'll remember this one for a long time.
I read Acquisition while on vacation. I was a little frightened by the length of the book, but the book was so captivating that I moved through it quickly. The best part for me was the scripture and how the author was able make it meaningful for many seasons of life. I found it very convicting, really making me think about my own decisions in life. I loved that there was a love interest and was surprised by many of the twists and turn of events. I did find the Acquisition jargon a little confusing at times, but it did not distract from the theme of the book. I also enjoyed the characters. There seemed to be all walks of life represented. I loved how McCann was so genuine. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends. I'm grateful for a book that shows how the Lord's word can be real in our lives if we choose.
""Acquisition" is an excellent roadmap as well as a reminder to what is most important in life; our relationship with God, family and friends. Wilson McCann, the main character in the book begins as an example of how people throughout life are distracted from what is truly important. McCann ignores this by selfishly consuming himself with his career and isolating himself for years from family and friends. As he experiences tragedies he finds that his relationship with God eventually brings him the comfort, happiness of relationships that he wished he had earlier in life. The book elevates the point that it is never too early and certainly never too late to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Acquisition brings forth interesting characters and several plots that are suspenseful and entertainingly fun to follow. Although centered on a specific industry the point of "Acquisition" applies personally and universally.

Robert Zinnecker effectively demonstrates an in depth knowledge of the past and future telecommunications industry giving the reader a ringside view of the regulatory, political and egotistical facets of corporate acquisition wheeling and dealing.

The book is a very compelling portrayal of Corporate America that can devour the lives of its employees that many have experienced or could easily empathize with on a personal basis. Whether you are a born again Christian, or one questioning the validity of God, the book will strengthen your spiritual passion or possibly open a door to your own personal relationship with God. Acquisition is well worth reading. It is a riveting novel with well-developed themes that keep your interest from beginning to end. I strongly recommend it.

Acquisition by Robert W. Zinnecker
Review by Fredric L. Moore, June 29, 2011

The substructual conflict in this novel is complex and intriguing.
The characters in the unfolding story are clearly drawn and engaging.
The world of high finance in the telecommunications industry needs to be understood by the reader for the characters to become real. Zinnecker manages this very well because of his personal professional background.

As the story unfolds we discover that the primary conflict is not, however, in this world of business. It is in the heart and mind of the protagonist, Wilson McCann. His is a journey of finding meaning and purpose for his life after experiencing disastrous loss in his business career. On that journey he moves to the small Michigan town of Farnsworth. Here he encounters a succession of entertaining and likable characters, most of whom have already found that meaning for their lives, and it has become for them a directional beam. They are unapologetically persons of faith whose stories are not oversimplified and who still find life a challenge sometimes, but they are people with confidence in their faith.

McCann's faith journey is, I believe, the major conflict interest in the story. It is a journey with roadblocks and detours, fear, disappointment and troubling times. It is not quickly nor easily resolved. The people of faith around him are the instruments of that resolution.

I particularly like the local United Methodist pastor, Chuck Hastings. He visits McCann at his farm early in the story. McCann is not fond of "Bible thumpers" and tells Chuck abruptly that he is not a candidate to be "saved." Chuck responds as follows

"I came out here to welcome you to the community and to thank you for coming tour church. I came out to invite you to come again any time you're of a mind to. I came out here to offer you my hand in friendship and to say that I would be honored to help you any way I can. If your life needs changes, that's something between you and God."

And that is the way the story unfolds. As the novel concludes, it does so with what seems to be a rush of new characters and events...sometimes taking your breath away. You are coming to the finish line and you are, indeed, out of breath.

What a way to finish a story...breathless!
You will get "hooked" on this well written Novel that also speaks to one's heart and soul, and very possibly life changing
