There is only one word to describe this book and that is AWESOME!!!This book was so out of my usual genre, preferring Contemporary Romance, Erotica, New Young Adult, but having read all of Kaylea Cross's other books (Military Romance and Paranormal), I bought this the day of release as well and I loved it too bits and didn't want it to end. This is a full length novel, but I could have carried on and on.
The novel is set during the American Civil War so you also get a bit of a history lesson. Not too much to bore someone who isn't interested in the War, but enough to give you an idea about it, and one thing you can guarantee is that it will all be fact, as Ms Cross has been praised in previous books for her factual content.
Both characters, Justin and Bree are loveable right from the beginning and you can feel the attraction between them. Their first meeting is short and the second so much longer, because Justin is Bree's patient in the hospital. I so wish she'd given him a proper sponge bath lol.
Once Justin is released from the hospital they separate yet again, but finally come together (make sure you have a fan handy), but it still isn't easy sailing for them both and of course there are a few more, fan needed, scenes.
This was my first historical romance book that I've read in years and I really really really hope that Ms Cross write more of these. Maybe Morgan and Cahill?????
The author has a wonderful style of writing and I only hope in future years, to be able to write as well as she does.

You don't have to like history to enjoy this book. I saw the beginning of great horse breeding in the Kentucky bluegrass and racing in its beginning. Plus the strength of family in times of struggle. Loved this book. Thanks, Kaylea
Didn't think I'd be drawn so quickly into this story..Love Kaylea Cross..so I started reading and loved the story line and the characters...Just made me think..War is a terrible terrible way to solve problems..Lot's of kind people introduced in this story even though they are on opposite sides...The couple need one another and Ms.Cross does a wonderful job of bringing in heartfelt emotions...
I had read the glowing reviews before I bought this book, and I couldn’t wait to read it. Unfortunately, I found it so flat and uneventful. I have an enormous collection of American Civil War historical novels (at last count there were over 1000), and this is one of the worst I’ve ever read.
I'm speechless - and believe me that doesn't really happen all too often to me!
This book was definitely Kaylea Cross at her best! Against the backdrop of the American Civil War the author let the reader participate in the mesmerizing love story between Justin and Brianna, who had to overcome all kinds of hardship that are related to a civil war political differences, loss of loved ones and sacrifice of ideals.
Well researched and beautifully written. Educational without being boring. Emotional descriptions that created the perfect stage for the plot. And yes, there were even some hot sex scenes.

This is, hands down, one of the most beautifully written love stories I have ever read. With a backdrop of the Civil War, one of the darkest periods in the history of this country, Kaylea Cross weaves a story, so full of actual historical events, I felt I was right there with Brianna, while she anguished over the loss of both property and human life. I cannot even imagine the strength of character this woman possessed, to have endured all she has and still have the capacity to love and forgive! And no better hero anywhere than Captain Justin - outstanding character development -also brings him to life for the reader. If you are looking for an outstanding historical, you will do no better than this amazing story.
I started to give this book only a 3 star rating and then decided that might not be fair so I gave it a 4 star. The reason I originally considered 3 stars is because of the amount of graphic and descriptive sex in the book. I absolutely do not need to know who put what where and how it made them feel. It really added very little (if any) to the book. I'm not sure why authors feel compelled to be so descriptive when it can be lovely and extremely romantic without such detail. Since others apparently like this sort of thing (based on previous ratings), I am giving it 4 stars because it really was a good plot and well written. Just wanted to make other people, who are looking for a good read, aware of the fact that it is pretty steamy in places. That way they can make an informed decision as to whether to buy it - or not.
